Today’s Employee Spotlight is on Chris Schatz, our talented Quality Control Lead. Read our Q&A with him below!
Where are you from?
Madison, Wisconsin. I have also lived in Chicago, as well as Portland, Oregon.
How long have you worked at Synterex?
Half a year so far, since December 2022.
What is your favorite thing about the company?
Remote work is helping me keep safe in multiple ways. Beyond the obvious concern of the ongoing pandemic, I’ve been able to create an ergonomic and comfortable working space, the first I’ve had in nearly 20 years. Seems like this should be commonplace, but it isn’t in many industries.
How did you get into medical writing?
I first broke into publishing through magazine and book project management and compositing (text and music). After that, I trained as a medical editor at University of Chicago Press.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
The group dynamic. I collaborate with intellectual peers and work independently with other self-starters. And we get a lot done!
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
At Synterex so far, being involved with a vaccine submission for children was a highlight. In past work, I have edited a dictionary. That was a thrill to me as a reference buff, although it was also extremely monotonous, as you might imagine.
What are some of the hobbies/interests you’re most passionate about?
Music. I play bassoon and piano, and am involved with a community orchestra. I also enjoy reading, hiking, bicycling, gardening, and photography.
