Today’s employee spotlight is on Cheryl Kolus, one of our talented Medical Writers. Read our Q&A with her below.
Where are you from?
Mechanicsburg, PA; now living in Fort Collins, CO.
How long have you worked at Synterex?
Since August 2021.
What is your favorite thing about the company?
My colleagues—they’re great (and more fun than you’d expect)!
How did you get into medical writing?
I thought medical writing might be a good fit, given I have a background and degrees in both the medical and writing/editing fields.
I signed up for AMWA’s Essential Skills self-study course, thinking I’d take a year to do it and then maybe apply for some jobs. But then I saw that my friend Jordan, who went to the same vet school and lives in the same town as me, was working for Synterex as a medical writer. I reached out to her to see how she liked it. Next thing I knew, Synterex’s founder Jeanette reached out to me for an interview, and the rest is history!
I’m still nowhere near completing that AMWA course, but I hope to eventually!
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I love to learn about the drug development process and that I get to work with incredibly intelligent and passionate clients and colleagues.
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
Having personally helped about 800 shelter cats feel better about being in an animal shelter through behavior modification and plain ol’ love.
What are some of the hobbies/interests you’re most passionate about?
Horses! Horses, and horses. And animal behavior and training. Which leaves little time for other interests—working out, travel, hiking, photography.
