Today’s Employee Spotlight is on Lizz Patterson, our hardworking business operations associate. Read our Q&A with her below.

How long have you worked at Synterex? About 5 months – my first day on the job was December 11th, 2023!
What is your favorite thing about the company? Teamwork! Everyone collaborates well and helps each other out, making this a very supportive and friendly work environment, especially for someone who’s new to the team like me!
How did you end up in the world of medical writing? I chose to take my post-undergraduate career in a different direction in the summer of 2023, and after a few conversations with a friend’s mom about her role as a medical writer, I knew this was the field for me! I love the details of writing and medicine and science in general, and this field blends those things well. I then obtained the Essential Skills Certificate in Medical Writing from the American Medical Writers Association (AMWA) and later attended the AMWA 2023 Conference in Baltimore, MD, hoping to learn more about the field and meet some of the members of the community. To my joy, this conference is where I met Jeanette, and the rest is history!
What do you enjoy most about your job? I enjoy getting to have a bird’s eye view of operations here at Synterex. Being in a role that provides me with an overview of business operations and allows me to handle key processes has opened my eyes to how the dedication of my colleagues at all levels is what leads to excellence in our work. In the same vein, I continue to hold deep appreciation for teamwork throughout everyday operations – something I’ve been pleased to see in full swing since Day 1!
What accomplishment (professional or personal) are you most proud of? I am proud of having obtained the Essential Skills Certificate in Medical Writing in the summer of 2023. I hope to be able to incorporate this knowledge into my professional career, and the skills I developed during that time have already been very useful in my role as a Business Operations Associate! Additionally, I trained in the spring of 2023 for a half marathon, and although I didn’t sign up for a race due to factors outside of my control, I plan to revisit that goal in the spring of 2024!
What are some of the hobbies/interests you’re most passionate about? I really enjoy prioritizing the gym because strength training and running help me to decompress and live an active lifestyle. I have also picked up an old hobby of crocheting, and though I’m not a pro, I enjoy casual projects while I chat with people or watch movies! I also love dogs, even though that’s not a hobby, to the point where I would gladly take dog-sitting jobs for free! And something I continue to invest in is traveling, whether to visit close friends or explore a new place, with a trip to Europe on my bucket list for 2024!
