Today’s Employee Spotlight is on Julia Kobel, one of our talented medical writers. Read our Q&A with her below.
Where are you from?
Lexington, MA
How long have you worked at Synterex?
6 years
What is your favorite thing about the company?
It’s a small company, so everything is much more personal. My colleagues are very friendly, and I love the interactions with everyone, it feels like family.
How did you end up in the world of medical writing?
When I was 16 years old, my mom drove me around in a neighborhood of pharma companies where I dropped off my (brief) CV, asking them if they might have openings for a summer intern. I eventually got hired by one of them for some administrative work, and, through my time there, learned about the different positions in pharma. I had always enjoyed writing and science, and medical writing seemed like a great mix of the two. I was hired as a Medical Writer as my first job out of college.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Interacting with clients from all different regions and backgrounds. Each of them is a wealth of interesting information.
What accomplishment (professional or personal) are you most proud of?
In 2013, I packed up my life in the U.S. and moved to Basel, Switzerland, where I completed a very challenging master’s degree in Pharma Technology and worked in Regulatory Affairs at the Roche headquarters office. While not exactly medical writing, this taught me about health authority regulations on a global scale and provided me with a well-rounded perspective of the drug development process.
What are some of the hobbies/interests you’re most passionate about?
I love to travel and learn about other countries and cultures. I also love spending time outdoors, especially hiking in the mountains.
